green

Green has me reminiscing big time today!

As a teenager in the 90’s, I not only thought 90210 was LIFE, but so was hunter green and anything with sunflowers! I had dreams of a hunter green Jeep Cherokee. It would have matched my hunter green Jansport backpack and the emerald in the center of my beloved class ring which sadly now is nowhere to be found. (I swear if I gave it to that boy in high school that I thought I’d spend the rest of my life with I’m gonna be so mad!) Anyway, the dress I wore to my very first dance on my very first date was a hunter green velvet form-fitting qipao style dress with a slit. I still think it’s my favorite dress I’ve ever worn. Maybe it’s because it’s the first time I ever felt like a real lady. Or, maybe it’s because it was so soft that it doubled as a security blanket that I could secretly brush my hand against as I fidgeted or to wipe my sweaty palms on because I was so nervous. Gosh, I loved that dress! She was like my first best friend. (Cue Dana writes, Ode to My Velvet Friend: Stories Written in Isolation. Coming in May 2021.)

Green doesn’t always carry the same punch as colors like red or orange or yellow. In fact, it’s a color you don’t always notice. Instead, it often slips in and creates backgrounds to our lives. But, it’s important to know that green offers us an incredible emotional balance. On one side, it represents tranquility and renewal, a peacefulness that brings healing. On the other side, it represents vigor and tenacity, the persistence of spirit that results in evident growth. I love green for all of these reasons, for the slow and the moving.

Let’s be honest, I’m not always thinking about these things when I pick up a green shirt, but, I do think there is something in my spirit drawn to certain shades of green in moments when I am in need of some kind of renewal or peace. That’s reason enough for me to keep wearing it as often as I can.

What does green bring to life in you?

On the Fringe

The fringe phenomenon has been going in and out for years. Honestly, I haven’t been able to find a confident way to jump in myself until I found this bag on consignment. Now, I’m ALL about this kind of whimsy in my life and it’s opening new adventurous doors for me!

Birds of a Feather

Here’s the best news about bold print kimonos…you can wear them with WAY more than you think! This lil’ birdie has been worn with everything from sundresses to strappy tanks, thin worn-out tees, and this olive green romper is up next! The sky is the limit!

Keep Your Balance

I’ve fallen in love with a loose fitting pant paired with a semi-structured jacket or top on my body shape. It helps balance out my pear bod and tricks the eye by broadening my sloped shoulders a little more.
